Flower Tips
A New England Wedding
Last January we were fortunate enough to work on a beautiful New England wedding. The couple met in college. He is from Wilton and she is from a small town in Paraguay. The mother of the groom, who also happens to work at our shop, wanted the bride’s family to experience a true New England wedding.
Picture a crisp cold day in January, a freshly fallen blanket of snow on the ground… a beautiful little historical church in a picturesque small town (Redding Center)…cocktails and dinner at an intimate candle lit restaurant called Clemens…and you’ve got the perfect setting to work with.
For the flowers, we chose woodland greens and winter white blossoms. The bride’s bouquet was simple – white fringe tulips, snowball roses (an excellent choice for its fragrance and ability to open wide), lilac and hyacinth, wrapped with a satin bow. The attendants carried white calla lilies and the men wore white grape hyacinth boutonnières.
For the church we created fabric cones filled with nosegays of roses, tulips, lilac, hyacinth, lisianthus and cedar. These hung on every pew, along with vases of flowers on the alter.
Centerpieces included mercury glass bowls, filled with snowball roses, lilac, ranunculus, hyacinth, grape hyacinth, fringe tulips, gray/green brunia (for texture), and lisianthus adorned with cedar boughs. The reflection of the mercury glass really worked in the restaurant, which was lit only by candles. It was the ultimate romantic New England wedding.
And we’re thrilled that the wedding was so stunning – Brides Connecticut featured it in their July issue. To view the photographs and article, click here.
